Sweet Geeks

"Keren, you need to bake with Laura, she's your punk rock doppelganger"

....and so began a beautiful friendship. United by a mutual friend, their love of Pittsburgh, and all things sweet, it took a while for Laura and Keren to meet face to face. Thanks to social media they had "talked shop" about recipes, The Penguins and of course their kids. Working 9-5 and baking on the side, neither thought they would ever get the chance to live their dream of running their own cafe. Leave it to a man with big dreams and a goal to bring it all together, and make that dream a reality.

Keren is a graduate of Le Cordon Bleu Pittsburgh (formerly International Culinary Academy) where she earned her Associates Degree in Pastry Arts. After graduation Keren interned at Soergel Orchards, a local family-owned business. While there she learned a great deal about the inner workings of a small business and eventually was promoted to bakery manager.

Since then Keren has worked for various leaders in the printing industry, holding positions of management in both administrative and purchasing departments. While working full time and raising a family Keren returned to her passion of baking and began a small home business selling wedding cakes, cupcakes and cookies to friends and acquaintances.

Laura is a graduate of the Bradford School of Business, Pittsburgh. It was at Bradford where she earned her Associates Degree in Management and initially fell in love with the idea of self-ownership and entrepreneurship. Since graduating in 2001, Laura has held various roles in the retail industry, as well as in banking and most recently, Technology Support. Laura created and maintained "Steel City Confections" beginning in February of 2011, and ran the concept as a side-business out of her home. Although SCC is no more, her passion for baking and love of Pittsburgh lives on in Chateau Café & Cakery.

We're Hiring

What kind of employee would fit at Chateau Café & Cakery?

The kind that are so bright, people mistake you for the Greek god Apollo. You multitask so well, you're reading this while juggling. You're so self-motivated, your application is half-submitted and you haven't even gotten to the requirements yet. You love detail, you have a mild case of OCD, you organize like a Trapper Keeper and switch gears like Steve McQueen at Le Mans. You have a passion for food, fun, and caffeine; are discrete like Bond, professional like Jobs, with the kind of personality that means you understand why a job description should be fun to read.

This is a perfect position for someone with a creative mind who knows how to work fast and smart. You know where the rabbit holes are and you're good about avoiding them early on. You know which details make all the difference, and which ones don't make any difference. You know the difference between spending time wisely and wasting time [avoiding the latter like the plague].
